Living With Wildlife in Jefferson County

Jefferson County boasts a varied and robust array of native wildlife. From magnificent big game, small mammals, to birds of all kinds, not to mention great fisheries in streams and lakes, a major reason why we live here is because we have wild places and wildlife at our doorstep. At the same time, by virtue of our growing population and residential expansion into traditional wildlife habitats, the possibility of conflicts between people and wildlife are on the increase. These conflicts run the gambit from inconveniences like deer shredding landscaping to potential human safety issues with bears and other large predators.

There continues a major effort by the county and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks to help address wildlife conflicts that arise. On this page are listed a number of sources that provide advice on how to deal with some of these issues. It’s only through all of us making the effort can we minimize wildlife conflicts and continue to maintain the character of our part of Montana.
