Geographic Information Services & Rural Addressing

Mapping

The GIS Department provides online interactive and downloadable maps for county residents. Custom printed maps made with existing county data layers are also available by appointment and a printing fee applies for large format maps (anything larger than 11 x 17). Single copies of maps are available for free for school projects also by appointment. In order to access online maps you must read and agree to the disclaimer.

Property ownership information can be looked up on the Montana State Library Cadastral website here.

Disclaimer

Maps are provided for reference purposes only and are NOT an official record. Data comes from many sources and may be incomplete, inaccurate or outdated. Jefferson County doesn’t warrant in any form the completeness or accuracy of data. Maps do not contain survey grade data and in some areas of the county they may be off as far as sixty feet. They can NOT be used to precisely locate property boundaries or encroachments. Not all features on this map, such as roads, are open to public use; you are responsible to verify that you are not trespassing.

I certify that I have read, understand and agree to the disclaimer above.

Rural Addressing

Property addresses are assigned through the GIS Department for residents outside of the city limits of Boulder and Whitehall. Addresses inside the city limits are assigned by the respective town.
Most rural addresses can be assigned over the phone during a fifteen minute call; you will need to have a legal description or a tax ID number for the parcel available.

It is VERY important to use the correct address so that you can be located by emergency services. Please verify your address directly with the GIS Department or town and do not rely on information from other sources.

  • Town of Whitehall (406) 287-3972

Address Markers

Address markers are available for free but must be picked up at the GIS Office in Boulder. They are now being custom cut for each address so please call a day in advance. You will need to have or get an address verification letter which can be obtained through this office.
