Jefferson County Treasurer
The Treasurer receives monies for the County. The Tax Office sends out property tax bills and collects current and delinquent tax payments. The Motor Vehicle Office processes titles and registers all vehicles within the county. A variety of Montana license plates are available through this office.
Taxes owed to the state, municipalities, schools, and special districts are collected at the Treasurer’s Office. With the authorization of the County Commissioners, the Treasurer invests county funds in interest-bearing certificates.

Delinquent Taxes
For information on tax liens from 2015 or prior, please refer to Montana Code Annotated, Title 15, Chapters 16, 17, and 18. For information on tax liens from 2016 going forward, please refer to House Bill 18. For more information on the tax deed process, please also refer to Senate Bill 77.
It is the responsibility of the interested person to conduct their own research of the delinquent tax process prior to purchasing any assignments. If you have questions in regards to tax liens, please consult an attorney. Jefferson County will not provide legal advice of any kind.
The Jefferson County Treasurer’s office does not accept assignments for taxes during the tax season months of November and May.
